How to Make Glow in the Dark Water

Water can be a lot of fun to play with, especially when you make it glow in the dark. Glowing water is perfect for making spectacular fountains, “magic potions” and other science experiments for night parties or to just add some pizazz to your regular party activities. There are a few different ways to make glowing water, but some of them require special chemicals that don’t mix well with other liquids or are hard to find. Other methods use phosphorescent paint or powder, which is good for some projects but can’t be used with water that will be consumed. This article will show you a few easy ways to make glow in the dark water that is safe for children and adults.

The first way to make glowing water is by using a highlighter. The tip of the highlighter contains a chemical called phosphors, which is what makes it glow in the dark. To make your water glow, simply turn off the lights and shine a black light on it. The phosphors will absorb the black light and glow brightly. This method works best with clear water as colored water will not glow as well.

Another way to make glowing water is by adding a bioluminescent organism. These organisms produce their own light, often a blue color. They can be found in ocean waters, and are usually made up of single celled bacteria or dinoflagellates (also known as comb jellies). They are harmless to humans and great for adding some spooky fun to your party.

You can also make your own glow water by using a fluorescent dye. This method works best with clear water, but may not be suitable for drinks or foods. To make your water glow, simply add a small amount of non-toxic fluorescent paint or glow in the dark water to a glass of warm or hot water. Stir the mixture until the paint or glow in the dark water dissolves completely. The warmer the water, the faster the paint will dissolve. You can even try this out in the bathtub, by mixing tonic water or other non-toxic fluorescent paint into your bathwater and shining a black light on it. Just be sure to supervise your kids in the bathtub so they don’t drink the water!

You can also make glowing water by dissecting a highlighter. This method is very messy and requires a little adult supervision. To do this, simply remove the ink tube and felt from a marker. Drop the felt stick and ink tube into a jar of water. The ink will bleed into the water, changing its color. This water is not edible, so be careful to avoid getting any in your mouth or eyes. You can even have a glow in the dark water balloon fight by filling some water balloons with the glowing water and turning on a black light. Just be sure to supervise your children so they don’t get any of the water in their mouths or eyes.
