Glow in the dark blanket are made with glow dyed yarn and can be a very cool gift for friends and family. Glow in the dark printing technology is used for a variety of textile products including stickers in children’s bedroom, glow sticks, and clothing. However it is becoming increasingly popular to use this special effect on bedding and accessories such as this blanket for kids.
The blanket is printed with a group of menacing monsters creeping forward out of the shadows and “Dark Universe” across the top surrounded by lightning. It is a super soft blanket that will feel great on the skin and is suitable for boys and girls. This is the perfect blanket for a birthday or Christmas gift.
How Does It Work?
The glow in the dark blankets are made with yarn dyed with glowing pigments that have been soaked in water and a special textile dye fixative. Then the yarn is kneaded thoroughly with this mixture until it’s fully saturated with the glow paint. Then the yarn is squeezed out to remove the excess liquid mixture and left to dry.
Once dried, the textile needs to be charged with a light source before it will glow in the dark. This is done by exposing the textile to sunlight or a UV black light for 30 minutes or more. The longer the fabric is exposed to this charge, the brighter it will glow.
The phosphors in these fabrics, whether zinc sulphide or the newer strontium aluminate, absorb the light they are exposed to and then emit visible light. This glow is invisible to the naked eye, but it can be seen by a specialized UV flashlight. This material will glow for hours once charged, unlike radioactive phosphors which require months to years of exposure to become active.
